A textbook of social statistics which firstly examines international and Australian developments over the last fifteen years. It then addresses each major area of social statistics in turn and describes a general framework which connects the main elements. For each element, the key social policy needs are then considered as well as the statistics which are currently available.

The purpose of this document is to initiate public consultation regarding the nature and content of the 1996 Census. ABS plans for procedures to be followed in the 1996 Census in the areas of collection operations, privacy and confidentiality, processing and publishing of the results are outlined.

Describes the nature and construction of the composite leading indicator and explains how to interpret the CLI. The CLI is a single time series, produced by aggregating eight individual economic indicators. It is designed to help in detecting the turning points between the successive expansions and contractions of economic activity. The CLI has been developed to supplement existing forms of economic analysis and modelling. It does not attempt to forecast the level of economic activity.
