This module is a reference guidebook particularly designed and written for Engineering Technology students of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). It is based on the today’s syllabus of BMMU1023/ BEEU1023: Calculus for Technology that has been taught in Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology (FTKMP) and Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE), UTeM. This module uses easy language and provides a variety of questions to assist college students master this difficulty efficaciously in order to acquire better appreciation of the concern matter. There are five chapters presented in this module. Chapter 1 discussed on the limit and continuity of a function. Chapter 2 mentioned on differentiation and its thinking followed by means of its application in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 focal point on the concept and strategies of integration and accompanied through its application, respectively

The effectiveness of the extract of two local medicinal plants Flacourtia jangomas and Alstonia angustifolia as antimalarials was studied. Raw/pure extract of the plants was first incubated with malaria-infected red flood cells and then injected into clean mice in order to follow the development of the parasite in vivo. It was found that the raw extract of F. jangomas (0.17/ml) was effective in delaying the prepatent period and thus lengthened the survival period of the mice. Similarly the pure extracts of the bark (25 and 50ug/ml) and the root (25ug/ml) of A. angustifolia were very effective in suppressing the parasitaemia and enabled the infected mice to survive longer than the normal control. These results seem to indicate that the extracts of both plants have the potential as antimalarials. [Authors' abstract].

A feasibility study on squid fishing using stick-held deep net was carried in waters aroung Pulau Kapas, Kuala Terengganu during a squid fishing season. The study showed that this fishing method is suitable for catching squids in a large scale. Light source located on a high place in the center line of the fishing vessel was found to be an important factor in optimising the luminescent area for attracting squid school. There were 4 species of squids, three from the genus Loligo and one from the genus Sepia. The species were Loligo chinensis, L. doryteuthis, L. duvaecelli and Sepia sp. Arrangement of light source on the wheel of the vessel and a sequence on the technique of controlling the light in varying intensity is discussed. [Authors' abstract].

Occasionally, cases of mixed-infection of P. vivax and P. falciparum were also detected (12 in 1996 and 3 in 1997). One individual was infected with P. malariae in 1996. The degree of infection (parasites/uL blodd) were also decreased in 1997 as compared to 1996. In 1997, the proportion of cases with 500 P. vivax/uL blood was 83% as compared to 70% in 1996. Parasitic load as high as 10,000 - 29,000 P. vivax/uL blood was detected in 1996 (2.5%) but none in 1997. Similarly, P. falciparum infection did not exceed 2000 parasites/uL blood in 1997 while in 1996 parasitic load of > 2000 and > 10,000 P. falciparum/uL blood accounted for 20% and 10% respectively.
