Willem de Rooij
Back cover: Melchior d'Hondecoeter (1636-1695) is published within the framework of the exhibition Intolerance. Intolerance consists of a temporary installation and a publication, both conceived by Willem de Rooij for the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin. The installation confronts a group of paintings by seventeenth-century Dutch artist Melchior d'Hondecoeter with a group of pre-1900 feathered objects from Hawai'i. Besides Melchior d'Hondecoeter 1636-1695, the publication consists of two more volumes: Intolerance documents the installation as it was shown at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Hawaiian featherwork is a catalogue raisonné of all pre-1900 Hawaiian feathered-god images, helmets, capes and cloaks.
