This is the most comprehensive compilation of West Virginia soldiers in the Revolution and other wars, containing rosters and, in many cases, service records of thousands of soldiers, with narratives on the various wars. The rosters and rolls, here collected for the first time, are drawn from both published and unpublished sources, the original records being in many cases in the Department of Archives and History of the State of West Virginia.

Back in print after more than a century, this book is the only major biography in existence on Ann Bailey. Newly indexed and containing supplemented images and a map, it is also important for genealogy research on the early settlers of Virginia and the Ohio River Valley.

According to family tradition, Thomas Huntley, Sr. (ca. 1730-1802), migrated to Anson County, North Carolina, from Bedford County, Virginia. He and his wife, Sarah, had three sons and six daughters. He died prior to April 1802. Descendants lives in North Carolina, South Carolina, and elsewhere.
