Historic Glensheen 1905-1930
"Glensheen as it has not been seen in over 100 years. Inside you will find 115 photographs-- most never before seen by the public-- of Glensheen, the historic Congdon estate along the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. Many of the images were captured in 1909, the year the Congdons first moved in; they show the house newly decorated and the 22-acre estate just as Chester Congdon had envisioned. Late photos, taken after Chester's death, show how Clara Congdon allowed the grounds to grow wild. Discover historic Glensheen through photos of: more than half of the mansion's 39 rooms, including the reception room, library, den, living room, dining room, breakfast room, and the bedroom of every family member; the boathouse, gardener's cottage, and carriage house, as well as four greenhouses that have been lost to time; the estate grounds-- including the stone bridge over Tischer Creek and the rustic wooden bridges that once traversed the creek and Bent Broom-- and beyond to Congdon Park"--Back cover.
