S. H. M. Byers Papers
This collection includes diaries kept by S.H.M. Byers from July 23, 1859 thru June 6, 1864; a manuscript autobiographical piece composed in French by Byers entitled "A Little Sketch of My Life in French", March 1, 1919; Byers' handwritten journal of "my first poems" including verses composed during the Civil War; a scrapbook of poems published in newspapers, with some accompanying ephemera; a scrapbook of manuscript and printed sheet music including titles "Were I the Wind", "Memories", and "Los Angeles the Beautiful (A Song for a City)"; single pieces of sheet music for "The Rose of Iowa" and "Sherman's March to the Sea" (lyrics by Byers); and two letters--one written by Lawrence Byers to fellow graduates of William Penn College (1892) and one written by S.H.M. Byers to Edward Marshall Boggs (July 27, 1928).
