Sukhvinder Singh Bedi was born in New Delhi, India, to a Sikh couple and was raised in Calcutta. It was his dream to come to the United States to study, and he attended a small Christian college in northeast Tennessee. It was there that he befriended the entire community, including staff member Paula Cutler. She has lived in the region her entire life, but she loves to meet the many diverse students coming to her small school. Although Paula comes from an evangelical Christian background, she and Sukhi love to exchange ideas about their lives, their religions, and their philosophies. That dialogue is the basis for writing this book. In it you can see how differently each approaches life and what makes the Sikh and Christian religions so close.

Tillena Lou's Day in the Sun is part of a teaching unit (grades Pre-K-2) called Living Things and Their Needs. In the story, Tillena Lou explores her home and discovers interesting things about the animals that live nearby. During her explorations, she imagines what it must be like to be a bird, fish or dragonfly! Tillena's joined in her adventure by her brother Tee, sister Taffy, and finally, older brother Ben. Members of the NeuroExplorers club help Professor Sally Hazelton investigate an archeological site, once concealed by waters behind a dam. As they explore the dangerous environs, the group discusses ancient peoples' beliefs, and why and how cave art might have been created. When they reach the site, they find holes gouged in the rock walls?the pictographs destroyed! What happened to the pictographs?
