Collection consists of: letter, dated 16 February 1861, from Norman Hall at Fort Sumter to Union Army Major General G. Gibson regarding "estimate for funds required in the subsistence dept. at this port" and emphasizing the importance of paying for the provisions due to the stringent financial situation of the person furnishing them, and stating "If I should lose his services I much doubt if we would be able to procure fresh provisions here"; listing, dated 21 March 1861, of commissary supplies on hand written to Major [Robert] Anderson; and acknowledging receipt, dated 23 May 1861, to Daniel [McSwiney?] explaining problems with earlier communications and expressing his intention of paying "if any way of getting it to you, can be made known to me... whatever may be at stake otherwise, we pay our honest debts."
