How to Become Like Christ
"A directory to the religious life, by Dr. Marcus Dods. Associated with the title-tract are several other kindred papers; one on the 'Transfiguration,' one on the 'Layman at the Gate of the Temple.' These are all probably sermons put into print. The book is small, and suitable for devotional reading." -The Literary World "One of the 'Small Books on Great Subjects' series, and consists of several bright, crisp papers upon topics that are vitally related to Christian experience, the title of the first paper giving its name to the book. Dr. Dods writes in a neat, attractive style, giving us clear thoughts well expressed, combining intellectual strength with spiritual insight. The closing words of the first paper, 'How to Become Like Christ,' give a fair idea of the doctor's clean-cut, vigorous manner of writing." -Christian Work What happens when a person is looking into a shop window where there is a mirror, and some one comes up behind--some one he knows? He does not look any longer at the image; he turns to look at the person whose image is reflected. Or if he sees reflected on the mirror something very striking: he does not content himself with looking at the image; he turns and looks at the thing itself. So it is always with the persons that you have to do with. If you become a mirror to Christ your friends will detect it in a very few days; they will see appearing in you, the mirror, an image which they know has not been originated in you, and they will turn to look straight at the Person that you are reflecting. It is in that way that Christianity passes from man to man. Marcus Dods was a minister of the Free Church of Scotland (1843-1900) and noted Bible scholar. Christians have rediscovered this short but moving devotional and have found it a rich, inspired guide in their daily quest of striving to be more like Christ.
