"THOUGHTS", was written during a period of grief and illness Ms. Oliver suffered after the death of her mother on January 11,2018. Ms. Oliver wanted" THOUGHTS", to be a dedication as well as a memorial to her mother who had been her life-long friend and mentor. "THOUGHTS", explores the devastating realities of grief we will all experience at some time in our lives but many of us will never fully realize as having any impact. Through poetic forms these images of love and death and grief are expressed to the reader with the hopes of gently relieving he or she of the terrible burden that often times results from such harsh feelings. Karen Lee Oliver was born in Poughkeepsie , New York on October 1,1959. She furthered a potential career in ballet by moving to N.Y.C. in 1973 where she studied on scholarship with American Ballet Th eater. Ms. Oliver graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a B.A. degree in English Literature Major/ Th eater Arts Major in 1981. She has since published three books with Xlibris: Pergola; 2002-2005, Tales From the Mirwood and Tranquility, Solitude and Other Poems in 2014. My book Raw is about self-reflection and embracing the inner-self. I tell a story about my life through each poem- sharing my personal experiences when dealing with grief, love, happiness and sadness. I immediately found great comfort and healing by writing poems after the sudden death of my father on October 10, 2021. I hope that my poems will inspire others to look within themselves and share their own stories.
