The Junkroom Band's Gig Goes Global
THE JUNKROOM BAND’S GIG GOES GLOBAL (a comic book written by Joy Berry on behalf of Amnesty International, The United Nations and The American Red Cross) The JUNKROOM BAND is a teen band that practices in the Community Center’s Recording studio. The band’s name is derived from the fact that, at one time, the studio had been a storage space for all of the junk that had accumulated at the Community Center. Eventually, the junk was carted off and the small space was converted into a basic-no-nonsense recording studio. The neophyte, but talented, band consists of a female lead singer, two female back-up singers, and four male instrumentalists on lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, and drums. The band’s music is original, raw-edge, contemporary rock. The wide variety of strong personalities, coupled with the never-ending conflicts and struggles of a start-up band, form the basis for an ongoing soap opera. When the JUNKROOM BAND is offered $2,000 to headline the Community Center’s final day of is Celebration of Human Rights Week, they are over the moon. But they come crashing back to earth when they discover that they will need to write all of the songs they will be performing. Will they be able to get enough songs ready in time for the big show? Or will they lose out on the highest paying gig that they have ever been offered? In the end, the band members embark on an unpredictable up-and-down journey that brings them into a personal understanding of Human Rights and leads to an unexpected turn of events that will catapult them into success beyond their wildest dreams.
