John Gay (d.1688) immigrated with Winthrop's fleet in 1630 from England to New England, and settled in Watertown, Massachusetts. He married widow Joanna Baldwin, widow of John Baldwin, and in 1635/1636 moved to Dedham, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to New Brunswick and elsewhere in Canada.
