A biography of a New Orleans photographer of worldwide acclaim

John Laughlin was likely born in January of 1777 in York County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Hugh Laughlin. John married Deborah Wilson 17 January 1804. She was the daughter of Alexander Wilson who immigrated to the United States from Ireland. John and Deborah lived in Erie, Pennsylvania and later settled in Guernsey County, Ohio. They were the parents of eight children. Descendants lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Kansas and elsewhere.
