Write Here, Write Now
Write Here, Write Now is a national writing awards event run by the DfES in primary schools. 2004 is the fifth year the competition has been running and now attracts 34,000 entries from over 6,000 primary schools across the country. This book includes short pieces of writing by 7-11 year olds- stories, poetry, journalism, persuasive writing - that have been shortlisted to win prizes by a national judging panel of famous authors and celebrities. Starting points and advice for the children has been provided by Gillian Cross; Brian Patten; Nick Arnold and Lizo Mzimba. Other supporters ofthe initiative include Geraldine McCaughrean; Tim Bowler; Jamie Rix; Jeremy Strong and Tony Robinson.A donation of 50p from each copy sold goes to Mencap, Oxford's chosen charity for 2004 book sales. Harry Potter's Weasley Twins, celebrity members of Mencap, are pledging their support for the Write Here, Write Now initiative through endorsing the awards in schools and presenting the ImprovementAwards at the awards ceremony in December.
