An original fairy tale, written in the style of Dr. Seuss, tells the story of the Smidgeons and the Glugs. Set in a mythical land, these fictional characters are quite different in many ways. The Smidgeons are small caring creatures while the Glugs are huge greedy beings with little regard for anything other than their own needs. Smidgeons reside in a lush valley not far from the mountains where the Glugs have existed over the decades. Conflict arises when the Glug's greediness threatens the peace in the valley and the very existence of the tiny Smidgeons. Can kindness and cooperation prevail or will brute strength and greed take over the valley?

The Smidgeons and the Glugs II: The Rescue is the next segment in the fictional saga of the Smidgeons and the Glugs. Written in the style of Dr. Seuss, the story resumes as the Elder Glug sits atop the mountain contemplating the fate of his fellow Glugs. His thoughts are interrupted by an army of creatures that suddenly surrounds him. Who are they, and what are their intentions? The twists and turns that follow lead to a plot to free the captured Glugs in Smidgeon valley. Will it succeed and will the Smidgeons be able to keep their valley safe from the greedy Glugs?

A young law graduate with a privileged background joins the police force to become a detective with the wholly altruistic desire to solve crime. His workmates on the lowest rung of CID see him as a threat to their jobs and their possible promotions and shun his presence. But before long he finds himself part of a murder investigation team and his ability to develop into a detective of outstanding ability becomes clear. The initial murder, together with a flashback of a death by misadventure some two years previously, lead to another murder and the uncovering of a police corruption ring of money laundering, tax swindles and the trading of contraband including drugs. But throughout the story, the thread of family life with its usual highs and lows, romances and worries, goals and aspirations, weave their way through the plot bringing a sensitivity to proceedings that makes the human story as engrossing as the criminal narrative itself.
