The introduction shows his perspective, the loss of 1945, and reviews the system he uses for the names that that loss cannot destroy: four groups of names – first names, personal characteristics, occupation names and place names. He points out the changes the originally low German names were subject to by the intrusion of the Luther high German. A lovely book.
