On 12 Oct 59, a USATREOG field party of two officers and three enlisted men departed Fort Eustis, Virginia for Antarctica. Their mission was twofold: to observe the operational techniques employed by the U.S. Navy Task Force 43 and to integrate into Antarctic support activities.
