This story is about two teenage ladies who were fierce competitors on the field and how God turned a bad situation into a good one. Jacobus von Rhenen or Van Renen (d.1764) was probably born in east Prussia (possibly in The Netherlands), and having fought a duel (according to tradition) he immigrated in 1721/1722 to Cape Town, South Africa. His second son, Daniel van Renen (b.1730), married Catharina Christian Beck and died while their son, Jacob, was still a child. Jacobus and his second wife raised Jacob, their grandson. Jacob served in the British army in India (he died there), and his descendants made their home in England while serving in the British military throughout the world.
