The Work of Donald James Washburn
Born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1935 and last lived in Boise, Idaho, Donald settled in Wrightwood, California, some eight years ago. He studied fine art at the University of Washington and, after active duty in the army, he obtained his bachelor of fine arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then obtained his master of fine arts degree from California College of the Arts in Oakland, California, while being tutored by Robert Bechtle. Donald has shown his work in the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Richmond, Virginia; Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho; and The Commonwealth Club, San Francisco, California. Don currently has work permanently hanging in the Aspin Lofts of Boise. He has worked as a draftsman, a production illustrator, and a graphic illustrator for Boeing Company and others. He has worked on an eight-foot-by-thirty-two-foot painting for the Desert Community Bank in Wrightwood, which took two and one-half years to complete, and the painting was dedicated to Wrightwood in 2013. He is currently working on landscapes and abstract paintings as he continues to take many photos.
