This book is the dissertation that Daniel. R. Sanchez wrote in fulfillment of the requirements of a Ph.D. at the Oxford Centre for Missions Studies at Oxford, England. The purpose of the dissertation was to reflect theologically on the pilgrimage of Hispanics in the United States of America. After doing an analysis of the history of the concept of the theological contextualization, including key issues and models, the author developed a theoretical framework for an analysis of a sociocultural context. This enabled the author to do a historical and sociocultural analysis of Hispanics in the United States of America. Out of this analysis, the following themes emerged:1) The desire for social justice; 2) The right to one’s cultural expression; 3) The role of the church in the socio-political life of Hispanic Americans and 4) The need for a sense of identity. Theological reflection on these themes yielded valuable insights that can enable Hispanic Americans to have a positive view of their experience as a minority group and to utilize the experience gained as an instrument to communicate the Gospel message within the various generations of their own culture as well as with other cultural identities. As the Apostle Paul, who was bi-cultural and bi-lingual, Hispanic Americans can be a valuable instrument for the implementation of the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.
