(1) Material relating to Anna Whiting's mission to France in 1871, comprising (a) a letter from Christine (Majolier) Alsop, leader of the mission, 8 June 1871, urging its importance, and a document of introduction for Anna Whiting, in English and French; (b) original letters from Anna Whiting to her parents, written while in France, June - Sept 1871; (c) a bound notebook containing a fair copy of her journal, in letter form, June - October 1871; (d) copies of Anna Whiting's letters apparently in another hand, including some represented in (a) above, and others not transcribed into the journal, June - December 1871; and (e) a bound scrapbook or commonplace book containing signatures, notes, short extracts in French and English, photographs, and dried flowers. (2) An "In Memoriam" booklet describing the life of her father John Whiting, printed after his death in 1899, together with newspaper cuttings relating to his death and burial, and a page from "The Friend" for 19 March 1897, recalling the life of Anna Rebecca Whiting (Anna Maria Whiting's mother), following her death.
