Caspar Morris Medical Case Notebook
A bound manuscript of extensive, descriptive handwritten notes on a variety of medical cases, sometimes considering etiology, detailing treatment, and following the course of a case over several days to convalescence. The cases, many times referenced by name, are sequentially dated, sometimes with long gaps between individual cases or clusters, suggesting this volume was transcribed from other notes or kept in preparation for lectures or publication. The physician sometimes refers to other published or known cases and epidemiology. A preliminary, alphabetic index was constructed but never filled-in. Cases are titled by type and include nervous disorders, insanity, heart disease, dysentery, hemorrhoids, cholera, scarlatina, pleurisy, tubercles, phthisis tubercular, paralysis, puerperal diseases, and many other disorders. The doctor considers the effects of weather, value of signs and symptoms, appearances of tissues and organs, and possible values of drug treatments. Most pages following 209 are blank except for handwritten page numbers.
