Diamonds Are for Trevor
SynopsisDiamonds are for Trevor is a comic adventure story about two lads from South Wales, Trevor, and David, who undertake an ironic pilgrimage of crime and self-discovery in rural France. Trevor's grandad had been a magician, and taught his grandson the tricks of the trade, in order to help the boy to be an upstanding citizen. It didn't. Instead, he uses these skills to further his criminal activities. Trevor also writes poetry and hopes to have it published sometime. His other interest is in local politics, but he is too lazy to pursue it.David regularly visits the bookmaker as gambling on horses may be the ideal way to get some money without having to work for it. He is fortunate and does win some money. When the choir go to Brittany for a concert, David joins them but does not return. He rings Trevor to tell him he has bought a bar and invites his friend to join him to help rejuvenate it.As David and Trevor are short of funds, they decide to do a robbery that involves stealing diamonds. If anything could go wrong, it goes wrong, but in the end, with a little help from their friends, they come up smelling of roses, but unfortunately not diamonds. The book is a light-hearted tribute to Lady Luck as the random and arbitrary rescuer of the oppressed and downtrodden. By the time the Welshmen reach the last chapter of their quest they have grown from teenage petty criminals to upstanding adults beloved by the community.
