An Introduction to Climate Change
The first four chapters of this report summarize current scientific understanding of climate change and its global impact. Data in these chapters are mainly derived from the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and key scientific papers published in the international peer-reviewed literature in recent years. Topics covered in these chapters include the natural global climate system, the climatic balance, climates of the past, the greenhouse effect, prediction of future climate, and the impacts of a warmer world on ecosystems, coastal regions, resources, health, & security. Chapter 5 focusses on the many possible impacts of a warmer climate on Canada, including impacts on forests, agriculture, water resources, fisheries, coastal zones, transportation, health, and energy production. The final chapter discusses how people can respond to climate change issues.
