Modern urban terraced houses or row houses emerged in Europe from the 17th century onwards. Usually two to three storeys high and with a garden at the back, they formed the traditional urban block. In Brussels, this bourgeois form of housing took on a particularly varied and inspiring form – including the well-known Art Nouveau residences – and forms the DNA of the city to this day. This publication analyses 100 selected examples illustrating the emergence of the terraced house and its further development in other forms of housing. The result is a broad panorama and a history of the architecture and development of the city of Brussels with its particularly heterogenous cityscape. This expanded edition comprises a new chapter by Kristiaan Borret, the city's former bouwmeester. 13 new case studies were added and the content was updated. Städtische Reihenhäuser - town houses - entstanden in Europa ab dem 17. Jahrhundert. Im Regelfall zwei- bis dreigeschossig und mit einem Garten auf der Rückseite ausgestattet, bildeten sie den städtischen Block. In Brüssel hat diese bürgerliche Wohnform eine besonders vielgestaltige und bis heute inspirierende Ausformung erfahren. Diese Publikation analysiert 100 ausgewählte Beispiele dieser Typologie, zeigt aber auch ihre Weiterentwicklung in anderen Formen des Wohnungsbaus. So entstehen ein breit angelegtes Panorama sowie eine Architektur- und Entstehungsgeschichte der Stadt Brüssel. Die erweiterte Neuausgabe enthält ein Kapitel von Kristiaan Borret, dem ehemaligen bouwmeester der Stadt. Zehn neue Beispiele wurden hinzugefügt und der Inhalt wurde durchweg aktualisiert. Ein Projektregister erlaubt das rasche Auffinden von Gebäuden.

In the age of Alfonso II D'Este (1533-1597), the tournois à thème developed into a more complex performance, the cavalleria, which involved stage-setting, acting, music, dancing, machinery and firework displays. One of its most accomplished examples was the cavalleria L'Isola Beata (1569), which is fully described and analysed in this work. The cavalleria also influenced the development of dramatic tournaments in the Italian courts, and anticipated a new form of performance in the Baroque period, the opera-torneo.

Il volume propone uno studio geoarcheologico della pianura a nord-est di Bologna, con particolare riferimento ai territori di Minerbio e Budrio. La ricerca raccoglie le informazioni desumibili dalla cartografia archeologica e geologica e, attraverso l'analisi di carotaggi manuali effettuati per l'occasione, ricostruisce le vicende stratificate del territorio. Il dato stratigrafico così ottenuto viene elaborato per la produzione di una carta dello spessore dei depositi alluvionali post-romani. Il tutto viene infine messo in relazione con i dati da cartografia storica e reperibili nelle fonti scritte in un periodo compreso tra XI e XIV secolo, al fine di contestualizzare stratigraficamente l'evoluzione dei sistemi poderali e del paesaggio naturale.
