Food Safety Amendments of 1989
Abstract: This hearing discusses legislation to amend the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act to revise the authority under that act to regulate pesticide chemical residues in food. The legislation is intended to enhance federal oversight of the use of dangerous pesticides in the nation's food supply and provide greater assurance that the foods we eat are safe. Testimony was received from government officials (Dept. of Health and Human Services, Environmental Protection Agency, Dept. of Agricualture), environmentalists, industry representatives, and several scientists. This document includes reprinted materials on the topic of pesticides and food safety.
