The History Office within the NASA Office of Policy and Plans provides a biographical sketch of the American physicist and spaceflight pioneer Robert H. Goddard (1882-1945). In 1926 he launched the first successful liquid-fueled rocket. He developed and patented many of the technologies that were later used on large rockets and missiles.
