De Kooning painted in a style that came to be referred to as Abstract expressionism or Action painting, and was part of a group of artists that came to be known as the New York School. This exhibition contains works from throughout his long career.

Willem de Kooning was, without doubt, one of the greatest draughtsmen of the 20th century. The drawings collected here -- the vast majority of which have never been reproduced before -- show his constant inventiveness and his continual obsession with the archetypal woman as his subject. This book gives the public their first look at some of the extraordinary drawings by de Kooning which the artist kept in his personal collection.
