Proceedings of the workshop, covering drought driving forces; monitoring, detection and early warning; prediction; and drought in the future. Papers were presented for each topic, and the results of working group discussions are also reported. A summary of the workshop as a whole is included.[$

This book first reviews the biology of Dytiscidae or water beetles, including life history and ecology. It then defines and keys adults & larvae (when known) of dytiscid fauna of Canada, the United States, and for some taxa also northern Mexico. The focus is on the fauna of Canada & Alaska, and adults of the 276 species known from this region are treated in detail. For each Canadian-Alaskan species, the following information is presented: nomenclature & synonymy; selected references; description, including illustrations of taxonomically important characteristics; comments on classification or variation; notes on ecology; and description of the species range, accompanied by a map of collection records. Checklists of the dytiscid fauna of Canada/Alaska are also presented, with the distribution of the species recorded by province/territory and Canadian ecozone. Includes systematic index.

Canadian library symbols are assigned by the National Library and provide a standardized key to the identification of Canadian libraries, information centres, archives, collections and information services, many of which participate or are listed in wide ranges of information activities such as data bases, bibliographies, union lists, local and regional networks and various other activities. This guide presents, within provincial or territorial groupings, an alphabetical listing of the symbols and the assigned names of the institutions, and vice versa. Contains explanatory notes as to the composition of the symbols.
