Memoirs of an intellectual socialist Jew, born in 1889 in Kiel, Germany. In 1914 Frankenthal completed her medical studies in Heidelberg. During World War I she worked in Austria, then was employed through the health insurance in Berlin and experienced the postwar economic crisis and the inflation of the Weimar period. Pp. 187-245 relate her experiences in the Holocaust. In 1933 she escaped from Germany and fled to Prague, then to Paris and Switzerland. In 1934 she returned to Prague, and in October 1936 she managed to emigrate to the USA.
