The third letter (22 Oct. 1848) is from Litchfield, responding to a letter from Sarah and her mother about the death of Sarah's child. Mr. Smith remains in Washington involved in politics.

Correspondence, 1829-1906, includes letters from creditors to John M. Taylor, exchanges of Maria and her children, and from Maria on behalf of the Florida Auxiliary of the American McAll Association. Bulk of later correspondence is between Maria's daughters Lydia Taylor Crane and Dorie Taylor Wallace.
