The Battle of Harlem Heights, September 16, 1776
Johnston's 1897 study was the first scholarly study of all of the incidents of this pivotal battle which revived the spirits of Washington and his men. The book offers a detailed, day-by-day account of the campaign and the retreat from Long Island, the capture of New York by the British, and the events at Harlem Heights and, later, at Trenton and Princeton. Half of the volume, more than 200 pages, consists of the texts of 60 extracts from letters, orders, recollections, documents, and other primary materials for the battle from American, British, and Hessian sources. Includes six original maps. Reprint edition. 2006: 246 pages. Softcover. (Scholar's Bookshelf)
