These papers span the most creative years in the life of Vermont writer and editor Dorothy Charlotte Walter (1889-1967). They include short stories, poetry, drama, autobiograpy, and instructional material which she used as a teacher of English to the foreign-born. There is also a scrapbook of newspaper clippings which she made while living in Paducah, Kentucky, with many annotations in her own hand.

This collection represents a small portion of the papers of Dorothy Charlotte Walter (1889-1967). Her scrapbooks of early years at Lyndon, Vt., college days at Brown University in Providence, R.I., and later years are included here. The collection also includes research notes which she compiled as a field worker for the Vermont Commission on Country Life, a partial index to the publications of the Burke (Vt.) Historical Society, a children's story entitled "The Old Witch," and a eulogy to Walter John Coates. Miss Walter was an avid collector of other people's writings and local history some of which are included in this collection, particularly a scrapbook of clippings about the St. Johnsbury, Vt., region.
