An artist's book of material poetics exploring notions of poetic lineation, prose and abstraction. The original prints are offset ink on brown paper. The resulting series of paired images are conversing, yet drawing the viewer into their murmuring. What are they saying to you?

Despite the usefulness of the internet, Australia has no formal national book arts associations other than some state craft bookbinding groups. Only one publication, the Print Council of Australia's journal, Imprint regularly covers artist's book activity. The book arts scene in Australia is fragmented, pulled together by events. Awards, symposia, book fairs and publications tend to happen for a period of time then disappear. Exhibitions pop up sporadically, depending on the energy and commitment of individuals, usually organized by the artists themselves. --Article abstract.

Abstract: "Collaborative Materiality seeks ways to subvert traditional writer/printer relationships by using experimental collaboration with contemporary poets. It does this by situating the artist book as a flexible vehicle for collaborative research, a form that can act as a common ground for multiple creative practices. What started as a simple desire -to activate both my relationship to printing poetry with letterpress and the reader's interaction with that printing - develops through this project into a series of questing negotiations with materials and studio processes that themselves open up broader questions about collaboration, the motility of ideas and the regional condition of Australian creative publishing."
