The No Sugar Delicious Desert Book
Abstract: Tasty dessert recipes, designed for people who want to limit the amount of calories and sugar in their diet, are introduced in this cookbook developed by registered dietitians. Recipes were developed in accordance with the U.S. Dietary Guidelines. By using aspartamen insted of sugar as th e sweetening agent, most recipes contain less than 200 ccalories per serving. Many are further modified to reduce total and saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. Recipe categories include: 1) cookies and snacks, 2) puddings, mousses, and souffles, 3) sauces, toppings, and fillings, 4) fruit desserts, 5) frozen d serts, 6) pies, 7) drinkable desserts, 8) gelatines, and 9) elegant disserts. Each recipe includes information on the number of servings provided and the number of calories and food exchanges per serving. Recipes particularly low in cholesterol, saturated fats, and sodium are labeled. Preparation hints, garnishes, and serving suggestions are included. Helpful background information examines the h istory and uses of aspartame and the food exchange system (i.e. food lists, serving sizes) developed by the American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetic Association.
