This report is the final product of the Background study on the involvement of men in gender equality in the European Institute for Gender Equality's (EIGE) working areas. The study was commissioned by EIGE and implemented by Men for Gender Equality (Sweden) in 2011. The general aim was to map relevant stakeholders in all EU Member States whose activity could be considered as contributing to a more effective involvement of men in the promotion of gender equality. Special attention was placed on specific approaches applied and materials produced by such actors. The study focused on the period between 2007 and 2010 and was carried out between April and July 2011. In addition, the research team analysed and provided commentary on the collected information and reflected on good practice examples -- EU Bookshop.

'Report intended to provide a periodic, data-driven snapshot of the state of men's contributions to parenting and caregiving globally by addressing four issues related to fatherhood: unpaid care work in the home; sexual and reproductive health and rights, and maternal, newborn and child health; men's caregiving and violence against children and women; and child development. It defines a global agenda for involving men and boys as part of the solution to achieve gender equality and positive outcomes in the lives of women, children, and men themselves.'

The third report 'State of the world's fathers' focuses on fathers to achieve gender equality in unpaid care work around the world. With a call for action 'The MenCare Commitment': to reach 50 percent of the unpaid care work, men would need to increase their time spent by a minimum of 50 minutes a day. Changes are proposed across five areas: in laws and policies, in social and gender norms, in economic and political security for marginalized families, training for couples and co-parents, and encouraging and supporting individual men themselves.
