John Bruce, the emigrant, was born ca. 1690 in Scotland. "It is believed that John Bruce [his wife Sarah] and family migrated first to Chester County, Pennsylvania ca 1737 ( -1740) with other emigrants under the auspices of Joist Hite, a Quaker, who sponsored what was known as " The Irish Immigrant Party"--Page 1. He died in 1748 in Fredericks County, Virginia. His descendants lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa eventually settling in Ottawa County, Kansas where they were one of the early pioneer families
