Robert Day (ca. 1604-1648) was born in Ipswich, Suffolk County, England, son of Robert and Ann Kirby Day. He immigrated to Massachusetts in 1634 with his wife, Mary Harvey. He settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts and then Hartford, Connecticut in 1636. He married (2) Editha Stebbins. Includes descendants of their children, Thomas (1638-1711), John (1645-1730), Sarah Day Gunn Kellogg (ca. 1640-1677), and Mary Day Ely Stebbins (1641-1725). Many descendants migrated to Michigan and Ohio.

Settled by pioneers from the South, Randolph County was organized in 1818 and named for a county in North Carolina. Winchester has always been the county seat, and the countys other incorporated towns owe their continued existence to the coming of the railroads between 1852 and 1882. In its earliest years, Randolph County became known for its abolitionism and work for temperance. In the years after the Civil War, the countys power grew economically and politically. The early 20th century witnessed a burgeoning manufacturing sector, and transportation was made easier through widespread use of steam railroads, electric interurban cars, and the automobile.

Located in the northern tip of Kentucky and fortuitously bordered by rivers on two sides, Newport has flourished for over 200 years. Col. James Taylor of Caroline County, Virginia, received a military grant for 1,500 acres, and his son Hubbard selected and surveyed a tract of wilderness along the Ohio River. This area was chosen and named Newport in honor of Christopher Newport, a British privateer who commanded several early expeditions to Virginia, including the voyage transporting the first permanent colonists to Jamestown. With the establishment of a diverse mixture of businesses and the arrival of German and Italian immigrants, Newport has grown over the years and developed into a thriving community.
