Extract: This study is directed towards estimation of potential production, income, and prices for U.S. farm commodities in the short run under different export conditions. it examines potentials in production under different alternatives in cropland use. however, before the method of analysis and its results are explained, we examine the setting of exports and production which have prevailed in recent times.

Extract: This study has been made to analyze changes in supply elasticities in pork production which may have occurred over the last three decades. There is basis to suppose that they may have declined and a major purpose of this study is to test this hypothesis. A decline in supply elasticity should also reduce inter-year fluctuations in pork production and help stabilize pork output and prices.

Extract: This study's first purpose is to model normative supply responses in agriculture to large-scale fuel alcohol production from corn and grain sorghum and also crop residues. Second, the study seeks to determine the benefits of improving current technology in alcohol production. Third, there are tradeoffs between crop exports and alcohol production. As alcohol production from grains increases, agricultural commodity prices increase. With price increases, the quantity of agricultural commodities demanded as crop exports, decreases. How large are these price increases? Fourth, in what regions should alcohol be produced and what are the quantities of the different feedstocks used for alcohol production?

Extract: The specific objectives of this study are: (1) to indicate the amount and location of land to be withdrawn from wheat, feed grain and cotton production in 1980 under different policy alternatives, (2) to reflect an efficient allocation of production and land use under a minimum cost objective function for alternative adjustment or supply-control programs, (3) to estimate the national derived market prices under each program alternative, (4) to estimate production expenses and income from farming under each program alternatie, and (5) to estimate deficiency payments, government land diversion payments and consumers food costs under each of the alternatives.
