A Lieutenant and a Sergeant
A LIEUTENANT AND A SERGEANT is a historic, exciting, and epic adventure about two of Shah's military personnel, Lieutenant Arman and Sergeant Zackaria. Arman and Zackaria both grew up in Iran in the 1950s and 1960s. Arman is of Armenian descent and grew up in Isfahan, the son of a deacon. Zackaria grew up in Gara, near Shiraz. He loses his parents in a pandemic and becomes adopted by a childless couple. Arman and Zackariah's paths cross in the army, and their lives become intertwined to the bitter end. We first meet them together in the '70s, a time of upheaval and intrigue. Demonstrations break out regularly. In this oppressive social climate, some foreign interests collide. When the disturbances turn into an Islamic revolution, the situation becomes unbearable for all military personnel associated with the Shah's regime. Many leave the country -- among them Arman and Zackaria -- but life outside Iran is full of fear and incredible obstacles. The novel A LIEUTENANT AND A SERGEANT reveals part of the horrific experience of numerous military personnel who emigrated from Iran to other countries after Shah's overthrow.
