Public Enterprise In India Covers A Very Large And Critical Part Of The Economy. Both The Union And The Twenty- Five State Governments Own And Operate These Enterprises. While Most Of The Large And Important Public Enterprises Fall Under The Central Sector, A Large Number Of Smaller Ones Belong To The States.The Multiple Problems Of State Government Enterprises Both Internal And External Do Affect, Directly Or Indirectly Their Overall Performance. A Study Of This Nature, Though Mostly Deals With Problems And Policies, Performance Of Slpe S Becomes Inevitable.This Study Attempts At The Examination Of Various Dimensions Of Accountability Of Public Enterprises In India In General And Punjab State In Particular And Evaluation Of The Existing Methods Of Enforcing Accountability.Of The Four Major Channels Of Exercising Control Over Public Enterprises, Viz., Executive, Legislative, Judicial And Financial, This Study Confines To The Legislative And Executive Sphere.
