The Chase of the Golden Plate

This mystery novel features a character called Professor Van Dusen, or, 'The Thinking Machine' whose energies are employed by trying to solve the mystery of some missing gold plates, stolen in plain sight from a masquerade ball by a person dressed as a burglar, complete with the revolver.
