Although James Harris was a highly original and important figure in eighteenth-century British aesthetics, his writings have become extremely difficult to find. This reprinting of the first edition of his complete works contains his thoughts on both aesthetics and linguistics. The latter anticipates the linguistic theories of Saussure and Chomsky.
