Toward a Jewish Theology of Liberation

States that the history of the Jewish people is filled with anguish and suffering. Even today, after the Holocaust, Jews are considered as victims and survivors. The Jewish people are ostracized and condemned for their difficult passage to empowerment in the State of Israel. On the other hand, the Jews' struggle to preserve their values has been shadowed by a betrayal of those values. Contends that in Israel and America, Jewish policies and alliances increasingly resemble those historically used to oppress the Jews. Surveys recent Jewish theology (e.g. Wiesel, Rubenstein, Fackenheim, Greenberg), and calls for a move beyond Holocaust theology to a Jewish theology of liberation which will encompass solidarity with suffering peoples everywhere.
