Canada's Oceans

Overview of Canada's oceanic economy and of current activities of federal government departments and agencies having responsibilities involving the oceans. The report considers the economic impact of fisheries, oil and gas exploration and development, ocean mining, marine shipping, shipbuilding and repair industry, and oceanic manufacturing and services. The role of the federal government in marine transportation; resource development and management for living and non-living resources, environmental protection and conservation, and marine environmental quality; sovereignty, defence and Law of the Sea; northern development; industrial and regional development; and marine science and technology development is described, along with the government/industry interaction in these areas.
