This, Volume 1 of Mental Crudites: Appetizers for the Creative Mind, Helping Science Fiction Writers Get Their Stories Off the Ground, is a collection of essays discussing space travel propulsion technologies that may be useful to aspiring SF writers. The essays cover speculative examples of propulsion technologies used in every stage of spaceflight: Earth-to-orbit, interplanetary, and interstellar. The idea is to get writers' creative juices flowing, as each technology has advantages and drawbacks that, when exploited, can lend environmental conflict and tension to stories.
