The key competency Kick Starts are resources designed to help teachers reflect on the nature of the key competencies and the potential they hold for teaching and learning. The focus of this pack is on developing a deeper understanding of the key competency participating and contributing and how it could fit into school life in different ways and times. Participation in the wider life of the school adds rich opportunities to participate and contribute, but these should not be seen as a substitute for the provision of equally rich opportunities within the learning areas. This pack includes: A set of scenario cards with associated discussion questions. Although fictitious, these scenarios will be recognisable as part of the day-to-day realities of school life. There are also facilitator notes. A simple self-audit tool for identifying the opportunities for participating and contributing that a school provides. Three classroom posters. These are designed to spark conversations with students about participation and where and when it can happen. There are also teacher notes; and a bibliography of additional resources.
