Zebi's Dream tells the story of a young girl living in a crowded city located in a part of the world where many children are needy. Zebi lives in poverty but dreams of a better life. While other children attend school, Zebi spends her days begging on the streets of the city with her mother and baby brother. The highlight of her day is early morning when she walks to stand across the road from the iron gates of a girls' school. Zebi's eyes light up as she sees girls get out of cars and run happily into the school. When the school gates close, Zebi walks back to her shelter. The sight of the laughing girls running into the school plants a seed of desire in Zebi to go to school one day. Her harsh life on the scorching hot streets gives Zebi few opportunities to pursue her dream. She is however determined and seizes every chance of learning to read and write, even if it means salvaging a book, a piece of paper or a pencil from the trash. Zebi's strong will helps her continue her struggle in spite of setbacks. A story of the persistence and positivity of a young girl in a disparate and harsh world. Ages 7-9 years.
