From the Preface

The aim of this book is to contemplate just what the essence of Christianity is. The standard assumption many people have about Christianity--namely that is really is nothing more than claims to some sort of "universal moral rule book" that one must obey if one wants to get heaven and avoid hell--is simply wrong. Unfortunately, in this day and age, such a misconception seems to be hallmark of how both Fundamentalist Christians and what I call Fundamentalist Atheists view the Christian faith. Hopefully, this book will help demonstrate just how false that standard view is.
