Friend by Day, Enemy by Night

This book explores blood feuding (mar dushmani, literally 'death enmity') and its ramifications in Thull, a Kohistani tribal community in the Hindu-Kush Mountains of Pakistan. Men go about armed with all manner of weapons, including assault rifles, and they are ready and willing to use them. The author describes this life and the place of the individual with it. He explores how blood feuding came to infect social relations from a historical perspective, as well as studying its consequences for Thull society and culture.
